Yes, the Wynn Hospital will use different types of materials and products for various areas based on how those areas will be used. With the interior finishes progressing, the project team just prepared an in-place benchmark for the epoxy flooring. This flooring type is used at the decontamination showers, the clinical laboratory, and even at the interior of the kitchen’s walk-in refrigerators. The product is used in multiple industries and acceptable for use in USDA inspected facilities.
The flooring is an elastomeric epoxy that is chemical resistant and installed with a multi process application. Prior to placement, the substrate is cleaned and prepped (i.e. grinded) for the primer. Schluter termination bars are placed at the base of wall in addition to cove former. The primary layer, the screed, has its resin mixed for uniformity then is added to a hardener. The combined mixture is then placed on the primer and applied using v-notched squeegees and rollers. Readings are taken continuously during the application to verify thickness. A final finish coat is added prior to final set. The materials cure overnight and are inspected the following day for surface blush or any imperfections.
